John 14:31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave Me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
the only time the Bible records that Jesus loves the Father is in this verse.
then Jesus says, Arise let us go hence. go where, you may ask? it is to death. the death of the cross. but before the cross...
arise to go to gethsemane first. there, the Lord will be begin to be sorrowful unto death and sore amazed Mark 14:33-34, He would be in an agony and praying unto the Father that if it is possible that the cup may pass away from Him, but nevertheless, Christ will let the will of His Father be done. He would say later to the disciples, "The cup which My Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?"
But despite His agony, His disciples were sleeping;
then He would be betrayed with a kiss from Judas, one of His friends and disciple and eventually His disciples will all flee and desert Him.
blow after blow and nobody seems to care.
what was this cup about that seems so horrible?
it is one of judgment and woe and sin and suffering and injustice.
it is a cup of trembling. it is a symbol of God's ultimate judgment on all the nations, on the punishment of sin...
but more than that, maybe the Lord Jesus saw also the wickedness of mankind, what they would do to each other.
2 Kings 8:12 And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.
The Lord Jesus could see not only the horror of separation from God, but the result of separation of man from God would be wickedness like what is described above.
children will not be spared in man's wickedness!
when man forsake God and reject His righteousness, God gives them up to do what they want. and so men kill and plunder each other, there will be anarchy everywhere. But God will judge the world in the end through Jesus Christ.
to be continued...
