what can I say?

Choice Gleanings of last Sunday and Monday

Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Isa. 53:4
Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.
John 19:1

The Roman scourge, wielded by a soldier’s muscular arm, devastated human flesh. Such a beating was brutal. But to be smitten by the arm of God--an arm so powerful that it took only His fingers to fashion gigantic stars--is beyond our comprehension. It was love for you and me that motivated Christ to endure such torment. He took our punishment, “and with His stripes we are healed” (Isa. 53:5).
--D. Logan

Jehovah lifted up His rod--O Christ it fell on Thee!
Thou wast sore stricken of Thy God,
There’s not one stroke for me.
--Ann Ross Cousin

I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and Thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.
Psalm 32:5

Many times we grieve more over the consequences of our sin than we do the source of it. We can count on restored fellowship when we are honest with God about the sin in our heart. If we argued with the doctor about his diagnosis it would do nothing to bring healing. Better to be humble than humiliated. Thank God that He knows us better than we know ourselves, and has the remedy close at hand and in great supply.
--Margaret Peters

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt,
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt.
--Julia H. Johnston

Even though some or even many of our friends and relatives may not be in heaven with us. They refused to believe. And of course we should and would sorrow for their eternal lost, yet the amazing thing is that in the first place we should be very thankful that we who believed could be in heaven at all!!!

There was absolutely no reason for the Son and the Father to make such a great sacrifice that They made at Calvary (Golgotha). Was there any good thing in us? Be honest with yourself.
Yet They did and so the great miracle!
Me a foul sinner, in heaven?
All because the Son gave His life for mine.
Hallelujah!!!
